Lesser Slave Lake Provincial Park
Sandy beaches and world-class birding on one of Alberta's largest lakes.
About Lesser Slave Lake Provincial Park
On the northeast shore of Lesser Slave Lake, which covers about 1,160 km² and is the largest lake in Alberta easily reached by vehicle, the park offers beaches, boreal forest trails and the Marten Mountain viewpoint. The Boreal Centre for Bird Conservation studies the more than 240 bird species that pass through.
A brief history
Lesser Slave Lake is the second largest lake entirely within Alberta. The park's location on a major migration route makes it an important centre for bird research and education.
RV tips
- About 12 km north of the town of Slave Lake on Highway 88. The park has campgrounds booked through Alberta Parks.
